YMCA

By Lozz Rose
Lozz Rose brings us match reports from all the YMCA FC's games.

UNDER 9s:
St Annes A 0 YMCA A 13
St Annes B 0 YMCA B 3

YMCA remain well in title contention after these convincing victories at Blackpool Rd North last Saturday. In the A game they went into a 3-0 lead with strikes by Connah Bishop, Bradley Garner and Callum Hendry. A superbly taken penalty by James Rowley increased their lead soon after the restart and he added another shortly afterwards. Garner netted twice more to complete his hat trick, Callum Hendry hit another three goals to bring his match-tally to four, Jordan Willder notched a pair with Bishop claiming his 2nd of the game. The B game was much closer but YMCA were again in full control. They rattled the woodwork several times before their vibrant attacking play finally led to the deadlock being broken, Dylan Salmon putting them ahead just before the interval. Soon after half time Carl Kennedy doubled YMCA’s lead and a Danny Singleton strike completed YMCA’s victory. Oscar Twitchett, Johnny Airey and Shane Delaney were all notable.

League leaders YMCA proved too strong for their neighbours in both games at Seafield Rd last Saturday and comfortably collected all six points. In the A game the feature was an excellent hat trick by Jack Donovan with the tricky Jordan Bishop weighing-in with a pair, an Andrew Cowburn strike completing the scoring. Calvin Ross impressed for YMCA with Dean Harvey, who set up the two opening goals, also notable. In the B game YMCA were even more dominant against their plucky opponents and Jamie Manley led the way with a well taken hat trick. Linus Welsh netted a pair as goals came at regular intervals. Also on target were Johnny Marsden, Daniel Lean, Giles Hellon and the impressive Ben Cheston. Tyler Douthwaite was lively throughout the game.

11-A-SIDE
UNDER 11s:
YMCA 6 FOXHALL 1

This game was evenly balanced in the opening stages at Seafield Rd last Sunday. However, after Ryan Allan, Oliver Drury and Harrison Kenworthy all went close for YMCA they opened the scoring, a poor goal kick resulting in Harrison Kenworthy making it 1-0. Shortly afterwards it was 2-0 through Jack Burton with a long range shot. Confusion in the YMCA defence just before half-time allowed the visitors to pull a goal back to make it 2-1 at the break. In the second half, YMCA proved too strong for the visitors and Ryan Allan bagged a deserved hat trick with an Oliver Drury strike completing the scoring. Henry Hargreaves was outstanding in defence with Liam Robinson also notable. An excellent all-round performance from YMCA with quality passing skills and good running off the ball.

UNDER 12s:
POULTON YOUTH 0 YMCA 2

Following two successive defeats YMCA fully deserved this win as they totally dominated proceedings from start to finish at Boundary Park on Sunday. They had chances in the first half to take the lead but to no avail and it remained goalless at the interval. However, they kept plugging away and further chances were created. Strikers Matthew Carlisle and Matthew Nelson were a constant menace and the midfield due of Jamie Abbey and James Rowbotham worked tirelessly throughout. It was Abbey who broke the deadlock after he was put through, calmly slotting the ball home. More opportunities followed for YMCA but they were not taken leaving the home side still in the game. A 2nd YMCA goal though eventually came when a fine run and cross by the impressive Jack Hellon presented Carlisle with a deserved goal which he had worked hard for throughout. Full backs Matthew Thompson and David Mitchell both impressed.

UNDER 13s:
WYRE PRESSALL 3 YMCA 3

YMCA, with just a bare eleven players available, made an utterly disastrous start at Preesall last Sunday finding themselves 0-3 behind inside the opening 10 minutes. Things went from bad to worse when Jay Ferdinand had to leave the field with injury following a collision with the Wyre ‘keeper leaving YMCA with just 10 men. However, they tightened things up and Rob Nunnen pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 at the interval. After the restart YMCA continued to show good spirit and the outstanding Nunnen netted his 2nd to further reduce the arrears. Shortly afterwards Ferdinand, after returning to the action still hobbling from his earlier injury, managed to grab a YMCA equaliser and salvage a point for his team which seemed very unlikely at one stage. Josh Walker, Joe Kennedy and Ben Cudworth were all notable in this gutsy YMCA team display.

UNDER 14s:
YMCA 1 POULTON YOUTH 4

Playing their first game for three weeks YMCA looked understandably rusty in the opening stages of this encounter at Seafield Rd last Sunday but things just never improved afterwards. Both teams had equal share of possession but YMCA showed very few ideas in attack and looked extremely brittle at the back with poor defensive errors gifting the visitors with three goals to take a 3-0 lead into half time. YMCA showed a little more spark after the restart and they pulled a goal back through James Gardiner after he had latched on to neat pass from Joe Van Breemen but the visitors sealed the issue by netting again to restore their 3-goal. This was a very sub-standard and lack-lustre YMCA team display with basic errors and sloppiness evident in all departments of the team although ‘keeper Tom Sharples did pull off some excellent saves.

UNDER 15s:
YMCA 2 BLACKPOOL RANGERS 1

YMCA had to work hard and also come from a goal behind at Seafield Rd last Sunday to maintain their unbeaten record. The visitors looked lively in the opening stages and it was no real surprise when they took the lead in the 20th minute. However, within 2 minutes YMCA were back on level terms with a spectacular goal from Dan Hartley who lofted the ball from just inside the Rangers’ half over the ‘keeper who had strayed off his line, and into the net. It stayed 1-1 at the break and play remained evenly balanced after the restart. The game turned though in an incident midway through the 2nd half when the Rangers’ ‘keeper was sent off by the referee for handling the ball outside his area and 5 minutes later YMCA went ahead with a second strike by the outstanding Hartley which proved enough to give his team all three points. Jamie Gunn also shone for YMCA.

UNDER 17s:
BJFF 0 YMCA JUNIORS 2

YMCA produced a very efficient team display at Bispham last Sunday to come away with all three points. A Luke Andrews goal gave them the lead and victory was sealed when Johhnie Cundliffe added a second YMCA goal.

UNDER 17s:
LYTHAM SENIORS 3 YMCA SENIORS 2

After a victory over title chasers Foxhall the previous week lowly YMCA looked like they were going to produce another shock victory this time against championship contenders Lytham at Mythop Rd last Sunday.
YMCA shook the home side by scoring twice without reply in an end-to-end first half, strikes by the busy Adam Parkinson and Nick Beddows giving the a 2-0 interval lead. The game remained evenly contested after the restart but the talented Lytham outfit gradually came more into the game. They pulled a goal back midway through the 2nd half then fired in an equaliser with just 5 minutes to go. YMCA desperately tried to hang on to a draw but the home side forced home a winning goal following a goalmouth scramble with the very last kick of the game leaving YMCA rather unlucky not to take anything from the game after a very spirited display. Elliott Lavin, Sam Bentwood and Ashley Walsh were all notable for the visitors.
