Opening ceremony, Beijing Olympics 2008
Team GB ranked fourth in the medals table at Beijing 2008 and School Reporters were there to capture some of the 47 medal-winning moments, in sports ranging from Athletics to Taekwondo.

One hundred and thirty students from eight schools travelled to Beijing as part of Towards the Olympics, a project organised by the Specialist Schools and Academy Trust, linking 25 schools in the UK with 25 schools in China.

The schools have been working together to build an online community based upon the Olympic ideals.

As well as filing the latest news from Beijing for BBC News School Report, students attended the opening ceremony and snatched exclusive interviews with athletes, their families, organisers, volunteers and photographers.

Homewood School Reporters Nasi and George managed to track down two Team GB hopefuls before they even reached Beijing.

In Tiananmen Square, students Matt and Adam ran into top Bermudan athlete Tyrone Smith in a coffee shop, and quizzed him on his experiences in Beijing.

Students from King Edward VII School in Norfolk reported on their personal experiences of Beijing, from toilets and transport to traditional food.

The schools involved are Comberton Village College in Cambridgeshire, Djanolgy City Academy in Nottinghamshire, Gumley House Convent School in Middlesex, Homewood School in Kent, Kirkley High School in Suffolk, Imberhorne School in West Sussex, King Edward VII School in Norfolk and Saddleworth School in Oldham.

You can find out more about the project and how to twin your school on the BBC World Class website.

Before the Games even began, School Reporters from around the UK were lining up to find out about Team GB's chances in Beijing, and how plans for London 2012 were taking shape.

Students from Strangford Integrated College in Northern Ireland, and St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School in Slough, interviewed Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell in the run-up to the Beijing Games.

Tessa Jowell said: "School Report is a great project giving students new skills and making them think for themselves about big issues like the Olympics.

The students from St Bernard's and Strangford College had really done their research and had a clear idea what they wanted from the interview.

I am determined that the 2012 Games will be special for young people, exciting them in so many different ways and inspiring them to get active and take part in sport. "
