Students investigate the value of PE

Roger Black with students from Hurlingham and Chelsea School in London

Students at a London school interviewed Roger Black as part of an investigative TV report about whether there should be more Physical Education in schools.

As well as interviewing the Olympic 400-metre silver medallist, they also spoke to their headmaster and PE teacher to ensure their report was balanced.

The class of 12- and 13-year-olds at Hurlingham and Chelsea School, who are taking part in BBC News School Report, trained with the sporting champion for an extra hour each week during the autumn term.

To mark the end of their coaching sessions, students took part in a sporting challenge against two other schools, overseen by Roger Black.

Shannon, 12, wrote an online report about the event:

On the way to the competition Lily, 12, from Hurlingham and Chelsea, wasn't optimistic about their chances, saying: "The other schools have better sports facilities and will have picked their best players.

"We have brought our whole class, not just our best athletes, so I don't think we are going to win."

During the day, the schools competed on a range of events for track and field.

The fastest boy from Hurlingham and Chelsea was Remi who won the two-lap race.

At the end of the day, Roger Black announced the final results.

Haberdashers' Aske's were first, Latymer Upper second and Hurlingham and Chelsea third.

On the bus back to school Lily said: "Although we didn't win everyone tried their best which was good. It was a good day and I enjoyed it."

Winners received their medals in a ceremony at City Hall.
