Whilst battling through a typhoon above Hong Kong Airport, and excited to get our trip underway, we walked into arrivals where we bumped into exciting young talents Steve Lewis (pole vault) and Goldie Sayers (javelin) from the British Olympic athletic team who both agreed to let us interview them. First we asked how their training was coming on. "Yeah good" Steve replied, "We've worked really hard to get here and had a few events like the Olympic qualifiers so we've had a lot of training." Then we asked about the air pollution. "I don't think it will be a big deal", Goldie replied "as no-one under 40 seems to be that bothered but all the people above 40 think it's a problem!" she laughed. "I don't think it's a problem for us really" said Steve "maybe if we were marathon runners, but for our events air intake isn't a big factor" Finally, we asked how they got into their events. "I started at school..." said Goldie, but she was interrupted by a Olympic official who needed the athletes. We decided to leave them to finish getting prepared for the Olympics, we said thank you and good luck in the events, while we continued onto Beijing. We wish them all the best luck we can and are looking forward to supporting them out in Beijing.
