Staffordshire's Favourite Spiritual Place

Over the summer of 2003 we asked you for nominations for the spots you considered Staffordshire's Most Special Spiritual Place.
We had a lot of suggestions from you... and thanks for those, which are all listed on this page.

Some of the suggestions went on towards 'The Nation's Favourite
Spiritual Place' a national campaign run by BBC Radio 4.
The Walsingham shrine in Norfolk won that.

But finally, the judges locally here in Staffordshire were persuaded by the Reverend Paul Davies's case for Gawton's Well in the north of the county.

And there's more...

spiritual...?
If you mean 'spiritual places' as holy esoteric shrines, just give us a miss.
If you mean places which are attempting to discern and work out the will of God - the source of all meaningful spirit - in community terms, you may want to give us a glance.
St Chad's, Burton, ministry team tries against odds to relate gospel to community development in 'Kingdom' terms. We believe that the spirit of God drives us out to work with others to try to 'lift things up'. Used to be called 'activism' - now seen as trying to Christianise things around rather than cloning.
Sits easily with Celtic spirituality in action rather than as in fashionable theological literature.

spiritual place
definitely mow cop and mow cop castle - i always try to have 10 minutes up there when i am back visiting family. it's an old old hill and it makes you feel very young when you sit on top and think of how many others have done walked up and done the same.

Staffs Spiritual Places
St Bertram's tomb (Saxon saint)in Holy Cross Church, ILAM. Thousands have visited, and continue to do so, leaving prayer messages. Serene, peaceful place in midst of stunning Dovedale scenery.
Many children come & leave their prayers and thank-yous to God for answers!
