The big-serving American, who was defeated by Wayne Arthurs at Wimbledon, triumphed 6-1 4-6 6-4 in the $400,000 (258,000) grass-court tournament on Sunday. The 21-year-old was once again helped by his massive serve, one of the fastest on the men's circuit, as he halted his countryman in Newport, Rhode Island. "I am just ecstatic," said Dent. "I am happier than I thought I'd have been. "It's just a great feeling that I can't describe in words." Dent started the match in scintillating form, breaking Blake in the second and sixth games to take the first set comfortably. Concentration lapse He lost his concentration briefly in the next set before breaking in the third game of the final set and easing to the win. He initially thought he had won the match with an ace in the 10th game of the deciding set but his celebrations were cut short when it was called out. He clinched the victory with the next point. The loss was Blake's second final defeat of the season, having been beaten by Andy Roddick in Memphis earlier in the year. |
