| Monday, 8 July, 2002, 19:29 GMT 20:29 UK Strong start for El Aynaoui Younes El Aynaoui got back on the winning trail Second seed Younes El Aynaoui claimed a first win in three matches over German Lars Burgsmuller to progress at the Swedish open in Bastad. The 6-3 4-6 7-5 victory saw the Moroccan into the second round as the ATP tour got back on track following Wimbledon. Argentina's Agustin Calleri caused the biggest surprise on the opening day with a straight sets win over fifth seed Jarkko Nieminen of Finland. The unseeded Calleri won 6-1 6-4 against Nieminen, who reached finals in Estoril and Mallorca earlier this year. There were also wins for Spain's Albert Montanes and Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic. Top seed Guillermo Canas of Argentina and defending champion Andrea Gaudenzi play their first round matches on Tuesday. On the women's tour, third seed Cristina Torrens Valero of Spain crashed out in the first round of the French Community Championships in Brussels, Belgium. She lost 7-6 6-2 to Switzerland's Myriam Casanova, but fellow Spaniard Magui Serna had no such problems, beating Tathiana Garbin of Italy in three sets. |
