Blake's fellow Americans Mardy Fish, Robby Ginepri, Justin Gimelstob and Taylor Dent also reached the final eight at Rhode Island.
Dent advanced by upsetting countryman and number four seed Jeff Morrison 6-3 6-4. "I served well today," Dent said. "I didn't really back it up with my volleys, but to only get broken once is a good feeling. "Jeff is a great returner and has a lot of confidence. It is tough to beat a guy with a lot of confidence." Dent will face number five seed, Germany's Alexander Popp, who beat compatriot Michael Kohlmann 1-6 7-5 6-4. Young Blake defeated the Czech Republic's Ota Fukarek in three sets. Lee, who was a surprise finalist last year, shrugged off a poor first set performance to beat the elder Blake in three sets.
