Australia coach Chris Anderson has revealed his determination to get back into the game after being discharged from hospital following a heart attack.

The 48-year-old former Test winger was taken ill during the Kangaroos' decisive third Guinness Test win over Great Britain at Wigan's JJB Stadium.

He spent six days in Wigan Infirmary's coronary care unit undergoing tests and will remain in Britain for up to six weeks to continue his recuperation before flying home.

But he is already dreaming of home and getting stuck into his new job as coach of the Cronulla Sharks.

"I feel great, better than ever now that the problem has been found and treatment has begun," Anderson said.

"I am now looking forward to 2002 and my dual challenges - to get myself back to peak condition as well as guide the Cronulla Sharks in their quest for the NRL crown," he added.

"I can't wait to get back and start stressing about Cronulla again."

Despite his ambition to get back into the club game as soon as possible, Anderson was more hesitant about plans to coach at international level in the future.

"My heart attack had nothing to do with the Australian coaching job," he said.

"I haven't thought about whether I will continue with the Australian job. All my thinking has been towards getting out of hospital.

"I still have ambitions to achieve at international level, but it is something for me to think about over the next few weeks."

Anderson also expressed his thanks to all those who had helped him over the week he had spent in hospital.

"I have been blown away by the support my family and I have received since being admitted to hospital.

"Everyone has been so kind and positive, from the Australian High Commission, the English Rugby League and the Australian Rugby League down to family, friends and strangers who love the game of rugby league.

"Their cards and messages of support have been uplifting. In particular, we want to acknowledge the doctors, nurses and staff of Wigan hospital who have been sensational.

"I want to thank everyone who has reached out to help me."
