| GB seeking quick revenge Johnson is tackled by Australia's Andrew Johns Great Britain's Paul Johnson says he is looking forward to a quick re-match with world champions Australia. The Wigan three-quarter scored the Lions' only try in their 28-8 defeat in the third Test at Wigan on Saturday - a victory which clinched the Ashes series for the tourists. Australia's last tour of Britain was in 1997 and the last official Ashes tour was back in 1994. It could be 2005 before the Kangaroos next tour Britain but International Federation chiefs are expected to confirm a one-off Test in Sydney next summer at their next full meeting in February.
"That would be really good because in the one-off game we feel we can really take it," said Johnson. "I'm sure the rest of the lads, like myself, would love a crack at them next week. "Seven years is too long to wait, people's careers are over in that time." Coach David Waite and captain Andy Farrell are also hoping for a chance to take on the world champions in Sydney on 12 July, ahead of the visit of New Zealand next autumn. "It's important for Great Britain to play the best side as often as possible because players and coaches need the experience and to play them at full strength is something to look forward to," said Waite. "The more this team plays together the better it's going to get," added Farrell. "We've gelled together in training this week and are looking more like a team. "We've got a lot of youngsters in the side and they need to get on the park as often as possible." |
