| Thursday, 13 February, 2003, 18:08 GMT Blatherwick rallies Spireites Chesterfield skipper Steve Blatherwick has urged the club's fans to back their team as they bid to end a run of six games without a win. Spireites manager Dave Rushbury admitted the club were in a relegation dogfight following their 5-2 defeat at Port Vale in mid-week. And Blatherwick said it was vital the fans help them get something from Saturday's game at fellow strugglers Barnsley. "I'm calling for fans to back us and get behind us," said the former Burnley and Nottingham Forest defender. "The club was nearly dead and buried two years ago and now people are booing. "Division Two is a really tough league and if we stay up that will be an amazing achievement. "The fans have to realise that and sit down and think where we are. "At Vale Park it was 20 minutes of madness but we have to put that behind us and look forward to the big game on Saturday," Blatherwick told the club's website. |
