| Tuesday, 18 February, 2003, 17:51 GMT Barnsley 2-1 Chesterfield Relegation-threatened Barnsley battled back from a goal down to claim victory over 10-man Chesterfield. The visitors took a first-half lead against the run of play after when Glyn Hurst delivered a superb ball from wide on the right and Chris Brandon was on hand to finish past Andy Marriott after 18 minutes. But the game had barely restarted when Barnsley hit back through Rory Fallon's header from Kevin Donovan's looping cross. Chesterfield, fresh from a 5-2 midweek thrashing at Port Vale, came unstuck again after 33 minutes. As Barnsley piled on the pressure, Dave Rushbury's men failed to clear and when the ball broke to Bruce Dyer the home forward made no mistake from close range. Barnsley dominated after the interval and Chesterfield's misery was increased on 87 minutes when Steven Blatherwick was sent off for two bookable offences. Barnsley: Marriott, Crooks, Kay, Austin, Donovan, Ward, Gary Jones, Neil, Mulligan, Fallon, Dyer. Subs: Oldham, Lumsdon, Sheron, Gorre, Ghent. Chesterfield: Williams, Booty, Blatherwick, O'Hare, Edwards, Brandon, Ebdon, Warne, Allott, Hurst, Folan. Subs: Richmond, Reeves, Rushbury, Bradley, Howard. Referee: B Curson (Leicestershire). |
