| Saturday, 23 November, 2002, 18:33 GMT Peterborough 1-3 Barnsley Home fans called for the head of Barry Fry before and after the game as Peterborough slipped to a 3-1 defeat by Barnsley at London Road. Around 200 fans gathered outside the ground before kick-off and the protests continued after a game decided by two first-half strikes from Mike Sheron. The former Manchester City striker broke the deadlock after 35 minutes with a fine shot that flew into the top corner of the net. And a crisp header from Dave Mulligan's cross three minutes later put Posh in all kinds of trouble. The home side mounted a spirited revival with Jason Lee pulling a goal back after half-time when he nodded home Matthew Gill's cross to set up a grandstand finish. But Bruce Dyer settled it at the end with his fifth goal of the season. Peterborough: Connor, Rea, Edwards, McGovern, Newton, Bullard, Gill, Farrell, Andy Clarke, Lee, Fenn. Barnsley: Marriott, Mulligan, Morgan, Flynn, Gibbs, Betsy, Lumsdon, Gary Jones, Neil, Sheron, Dyer. Referee: P Joslin (Nottinghamshire) |
