| Saturday, 23 November, 2002, 17:36 GMT Wolves 2-1 Nottm Forest Two goals in four minutes from Kenny Miller and Dean Sturridge earned Wolves victory against Nottingham Forest at Molineux. The visitors dominated the first 45 minutes and deservedly went in ahead at half time thanks to Marlon Harewood. But Wanderers hit back after the break to extend their unbeaten run to eight games. Sturridge had passed a late fitness test to partner Miller in the Wolves attack after missing most of training this week with a troublesome knee problem. Forest manager Paul Hart named an unchanged line-up for the fifth successive game. Wolves hold on The visitors, unbeaten in 11 league games going into the match, almost got off to the perfect start, as 17-goal David Johnson headed home Riccardo Scimeca's corner in the seventh minute, only for the referee to rule it out for offside. Wolves struggled to create clear-cut chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Miller spurning their best opportunity as he failed to connect with Alex Rae's inviting cross. Forest ended the half strongly, with Jack Lester's goalbound effort blocked by a Wanderers defender, and Gareth Williams forcing a fine save from England Under-21 international Murray. Murray was again the saviour in the 44th minute as he managed to palm away a close-range header from Williams, but there was little he could do to deny Harewood the opening goal just moments later. The striker received the ball on the edge of the area, turned and drilled home a low shot. The second half looked set to continue in the same vein, with chances at a premium. But the home side finally managed to force the equaliser their dominance deserved in the 76th minute. Miller netted his sixth goal of the campaign with a fizzing strike from 25 yards out that gave Ward little chance. And the game was turned on its head shortly afterwards, as Sturridge also took his tally to six with a close-range header from substitute Kevin Cooper's cross. Forest came agonisingly close to an equaliser seconds after the restart, with Harewood smashing a shot against the woodwork, and Lester headed over from six yards, but Wolves held on to move up to fifth. Wolverhampton: Murray, Edworthy, Lescott, Clyde, Irwin, Newton, Andrews, Rae, Kennedy, Miller, Sturridge. Nottm Forest: Ward, Louis-Jean, Walker, Dawson, Brennan, Scimeca, Prutton, Williams, Lester, Johnson, Harewood. Referee: D Gallagher (Oxfordshire). |
