Woking 1-0 Forest Green

Woking began their Conference campaign on a winning note with a deserved home victory over Forest Green but the scoreline should have been far more comprehensive.

The Cardinals dominated the first half but went into the break only 1-0 up despite creating a barrage of chances.

Only Ben Abbey was capable of hitting the target as he gathered up a Jon Brady cross in the 36th minute before slotting the ball home.

The assist was fitting reward for Brady, whose marauding runs down the left often left Forest Green's scrambling rearguard in tatters.

Woking should have gone further ahead after the interval when Rovers' Matthew Coupe was penalised for a foul on Nicky Banger.

Patmore stepped up to take the spot-kick but goalkeeper Steve Perrin made a superb save.

Geoff Chapple's men continued to exert their stranglehold on the match but the chances started to dry up, although Robert Kember went close with a blistering 18-yard strike which drifted wide.

Occasionally the visitors managed to break out of their own half but they failed to cause any real problems, with a weak shot from impressive Alex Meechan and a Jamie Impey header the only moments of note.

Woking: Farrelly, Piper, Boardman, Sandford, Anthony Allman, Brady, Moore, Banger, Kember, Patmore, Abbey. Subs: Tucker, Sharpling, Payne, Smith, Griffin.

Forest Green: Perrin, Coupe, Jenkins, Impey, Langan, McCloughlin, Foster, Owers, Futcher, Grayson, Meechan. Subs: Pritchard, Sykes, Tearney, Cook, Heggs.

Referee: M Yerby (Ashford).
