| Saturday, 17 August, 2002, 16:53 GMT 17:53 UK Doncaster 2-1 Barnet A spirited second-half fightback earned Doncaster an opening-day victory against Barnet at Belle Vue. Goals from substitute Paul Green and David Morley gave Rovers three points after Ben Strevens had given Barnet a half-time lead. Barnet began the game stronger and their dominance was rewarded after 33 minutes when midfielder Strevens opened the scoring. A superb 20-yard strike left Andy Warrington with no chance. Rovers boss Dave Penney sent on Justin Jackson and Paul Green, which turned the game on its head as the home side rallied. With 21 minutes to go, the two substitutes linked up superbly as a fine Jackson cross found Green, who made no mistake with a cool finish from 18 yards to give Rovers a well-deserved equaliser. And with just six minutes remaining, a pinpoint corner found the head of David Morley, who made no mistake from six yards. Barnet defender Mark Arber could have snatched a point at the end with a speculative long-range effort but his strike was well gathered by Warrington as Penney's men hung on to secure the points. Doncaster: Warrington, Marples, Ryan, Morley, Barrick, Owen, Morgan, Tierney, Watson, Barnes, Gill. Subs: Jackson, Nelson, Ravenhill, Green, Foster. Barnet: Harrison, Gledhill, Flynn, Pluck, Arber, Bell, Hillier, Midgley, Gower, Strevens, Agogo. Subs: Naisbitt, Baimass, Yakabu, Oshitola, Pope. Referee: A Green (Leicester). |
