Hereford 2-1 Farnborough

A goal in each half from Jamie Pitman propelled Hereford to victory over Farnborough Town at Edgar Street.

The midfielder, a free-transfer summer signing from Woking, opened his Hereford account in the 28th minute with a well-directed header.

He sealed maximum points for the hosts two minutes from time courtesy of an emphatic finish following good work from Robert Purdey.

Christian Lee ensured a few fraught moments after pulling one back for Farnborough deep into stoppage time, but it could not take the gloss off an impressive display from Pitman and Hereford.

Pitman's opener went some way to sparing the blushes of Ian Wright, who had wasted a golden opportunity to give Hereford a 21st-minute lead.

Rising highest to meet Danny Williams' free-kick, Wright could only direct his header across and wide of goal from six yards.

Dean Green twice tried his luck from distance as Farnborough went in search of an equaliser, although they were grateful for Tony Pennock's heroics when he denied Steve Guinan from six yards.

Joff Vansittart had a header blocked by Wright, and Lee was spectacularly denied by Matthew Baker in the Hereford goal before Pitman put the game beyond the visitors' reach.
