Burton 1-1 Scarborough

Nigel Clough's Burton Albion began life in the Conference with a battling draw against Scarborough at Eton Park.

Boro striker Karl Rose opened the scoring when he fired a powerful 38th-minute strike into the back of the net from close range.

But Albion earned a share of the spoils in the 66th minute when Stephen Evans headed home Christian Moore's pinpoint cross.

And things got worse for Scarborough as midfielder Nick Henry was shown the red card for violent conduct.

Boro were already aggrieved with the card-happy referee who booked Richard Dryden, Keith Scott and Shaun Rennison for unsporting behaviour.

Russell Slade's team dominated for much of the game and will wonder how they managed to draw a match in which they had the lion's share of the possession.

David Pounder, Gareth Stoker and Paul Sheppherd all went close in the second half but Scarborough were unable to find away past Matt Duke in the Albion goal.

Aaron Webster could have snatched victory for the home side in the 89th minute but his drilled effort flew over the crossbar from 18 yards.

Burton Albion: Duke, Evans, Henshaw, Blount, Hoyle, Talbot, Glasser, Clough, Kirkwood, Webster, Moore. Subs: Anderson, Robinson, Farrell, Gummer, Sinton.

Scarborough: Woods, Rennison, Baker, Dryden, Sheppherd, Henry, Stoker, Brassart, Rose, Keith Scott, Campbell. Subs: Hotte, Pounder, Connell, Ormerod, Walker.

Referee: K Wright (Peterborough).
