Once again Mark Cavendish has proved he is the world's greatest sprinter on the road in 2010. The 'Manx Missile' won five stages in the Tour de France - although the green jersey still eludes him. | CARL DORAN BLOG |
Cavendish followed up his stunning performance in France by winning the points jersey at the Tour of Spain in September. The HTC Colombia rider is only the second Briton to secure a sprint title in one of the top three stage races, following Malcolm Elliott's 1989 triumph in Spain. And the 25-year-old looks primed for continued success, with a career record that includes 15 stage wins in the Tour de France, five in the Giro d'Italia and four in the 2010 Spanish Vuelta. Cavendish will look to improve on his fourth place at Sports Personality of the Year in 2009 as he attempts to follow track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, 2008 Sports Personality winner, in lifting the trophy.
