El Aynaoui enjoyed the best season of his lengthy career in 2002 with a string of big wins across the globe. The Moroccan reached five finals, winning events in Doha, Casablanca and Munich.
He failed to make his mark in the opening three Grand Slams of 2002, though, managing a best of the third round at the Australian Open before reaching the quarter-finals at the US Open.
He matched that with a place in the quarters at this year's Australian Open, where he was unlucky enough to meet Lleyton Hewitt in the last eight.
He got his revenge over the world number one in some style when he knocked him out in the fourth round in front of his home crowd at the Australian Open.
Sadly he failed to continue that form for long, coming unstuck in the ensuing round.
But he went down in blistering fashion, securing his place in Grand Slam history with an epic five-set defeat to Andy Roddick, which finished 21-19 in the fifth.
El Aynaoui's Wimbledon record, however, is pretty poor. He came unstuck in the first round and currently has a previous best result of reaching the third round.
The tall Moroccan's style is often to soak up pressure and then strike at a crucial point in the game.
And, although El Aynaoui's powerful serve will be useful on grass, he is likely to struggle to improve on his previous best here.
