The 28-year-old is flourishing in the latter stages of his career, which saw him creep into the world's top 10 at the end of last season. His end-of-2002 highlight came at the Masters Cup in Shanghai when he surprisingly defeated Andre Agassi.
This season, his results have been much more mixed. He failed to get past the third round of the Australian Open but reached the final in Dubai as well as picking up the runners-up spot in the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf.
Novak has always been there or thereabouts in the men's game but last year was undoubtedly his coming of age.
He reached a total of three finals and five semi-finals, including a last four place at the Australian Open.
Novak has a solid, if unspectacular, baseline game that has never been suited to Wimbledon's turf. This year is unlikely to be any different.
The second round generally tends to be the time he packs up his bags and heads home.
