Andy Roddick has long been talked about as the future face of American men's tennis as Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras both reach the twilight of their careers. He has yet to prove himself at Wimbledon, though, where a third-round appearance is his best effort to date.
His huge serve, however, combined with his gritty determination ought to at least improve his tournament record this time around.
He has already enjoyed a good Grand Slam record in 2003, having reached the last four of the Australian Open - his best Grand Slam effort in his brief career to date.
The International Series event in St Poelten, Austria, is his only win so far this season, while he has already reached finals in both Houston and Memphis.
The only note of caution so far came at last year's US Open where he was demolished by Sampras, who highlighted a lack of variety in Roddick's game from the back of the court that could be particularly telling against the best baseliners.
