Sebastien Grosjean has consistently been in the world's top 20 for some time. But the French number one has shown few signs of taking his game and his performances to another level by winning his first Grand Slam.
At this year's Australian Open, though, he was unfortunate to come across Andre Agassi in the quarter-finals.
He managed to win just seven games against the tournament's overwhelming form player.
His other top performance came in Rotterdam where he reached the semis but otherwise his strong displays on court have been intermittent.
In recent years, the former junior world number one has failed to progress as much as expected in the last 12 months.
The 25-year-old's world ranking dropped by 10 places over the course of 2002.
It took until October for the Frenchman to reach his first final of the year and he took advantage, beating Mikhail Youzhny in St Petersburg.
But at just 5ft 9ins tall, Grosjean needs to be at his very best to fight off the more powerful players on the tour, although he does possess a rasping forehand.
