Guernsey tennis player Dominic McLuskey believes the island's team have a good chance of an extended run at the Commonwealth Games in October.

McLuskey will be joined by Patrick Ogier and Heather Watson in Delhi.

He told BBC Guernsey: "We've got a powerful team, the field is going to be strong, although we have a good chance of getting through quite a few rounds.

"The Commonwealth Games is a big event so it would be stupid to say that we're going out there to try and win it."

McLuskey said Guernsey's best chance of success in the tennis will come from 18-year-old Watson, who recently turned profressional after winning the 2009 US Open Junior title.

"Heather's going great," he said. "She could do really well because she's playing at a professional level now so she must be a favourite going into it."

Whatever the final result, McLuskey said the chance to play for his country in Delhi is the most important thing about his inclusion in the team.

He said: "It's absolutely great to represent Guernsey.

"I've represented them at the last two Island Games and it's always a great feeling."
