The Channel Islands' best young tennis players were pipped in their bids for promotion in the Lawn Tennis Association County Cup at the weekend. Both the boys and girls' sides finished second in their groups in the under-18s tournament in Glasgow. The boys, playing in group 5A, missed out after losing 5-3 to eventual winners West of Scotland. The girls team lost their final match in Group 6B 7-2 to Gloucestershire, who also won their tournament. "It's a bit disappointing that we didn't quite make it, we had opportunities in both the boys and girls matches," said coach Andrew Evans. "But we did better than I actually thought we would do and we performed well as a group and as a team. It's just unfortunate and disappointing now that we didn't quite make it."
