Jersey win tennis Inter-insular

Jersey's tennis team reclaimed the Inter-insular trophy on Sunday with a convincing win over Guernsey.

Jersey won the cup by a score of 15 to nine. Their victory at the Caesarean Tennis Club followed four years of Guernsey dominance.

The Jersey team captain, Matt Harris, was extremely pleased: "Every player tried 110%, it was a true team effort."

The women got Jersey off to a good start, taking a 5-3 lead in their opening doubles matches.

High praise

The men followed their lead, and by lunch Jersey were 10-6 ahead.

That left Jersey needing three wins from the remaining eight matches.

They clinched victory in a clinical fashion with a 5-3 last-round victory.

Harris said the win was well-deserved: "The players pulled together as a team and thoroughly deserved to be playing for Jersey.

"A large part of selection is down to supporting Jersey tennis, results in past tournaments and, even more important, attitude on and off the court.

"And every member of the team cannot be praised highly enough for this."
