Potential SPL transfer targets | | The January transfer window has opened and a number of SPL stars are expected to attract interest from clubs throughout the country. BBC Sport looks at some of the players who could be moving on before the end of the month. HIBERNIAN Charlton failed to land Hibernian captain Kevin Thomson after their 3m joint bid for Thomson and team-mate Scott Brown was rejected. The Old Firm are reported to be interested. Hibs urged Scott Brown to ignore the transfer speculation and focus on helping the Easter Road side's push for silverware this season. The player is thought to be interesting a host of clubs. RANGERS
Winger Chris Burke says he is happy to stay at Rangers, despite not yet agreeing a new deal. Burke's contract expires at the end of the season and he can talk to interested clubs in January. Gavin Rae has been handed the captain's armband at Rangers, but his future seems far from certain. He was brought into the first-team after former boss Paul Le Guen fell out with Barry Ferguson. CELTIC Derek Riordan has been used sparingly by Celtic since the attacking midfielder's summer move from Hibs. There is speculation West Brom boss Tony Mowbray could be interested. Stephen Pearson has been unable to hold down a first-team place this season. Derby boss Billy Davies signed the player at the second attempt for 750,000. FALKIRK Anthony Stokes lit up the SPL since joining Falkirk on loan from Arsenal, who have not extended his loan deal. Sunderland beat Celtic and Charlton to the Irishman's signature. Alan Gow has been the subject of much transfer talk. Wolves have had a bid turned down for the striker, while Hibernian and Aberdeen have also shown an interest. HEARTS
Rangers are thought to be preparing a bid for Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley. Celtic failed in their attempts to lure the midfielder away from Tynecastle last season.
Speculation surrounds the future of Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon after the Edinburgh club brought in two keepers. Arsenal are reported to be interested in securing his services. MOTHERWELL Scott McDonald's goals have been invaluable for Motherwell and boss Maurice Malpas is determined to keep the striker at Fir Park. The 23-year-old had a summer transfer request rejected.
