John Collins said his players should focus on playing for Hibs |
Hibernian boss John Collins has urged Scott Brown to ignore transfer speculation and concentrate on helping the Easter Road side climb the league. Brown, 21, is seeking talks with the club after it rejected a 3m bid for him and midfield partner Kevin Thomson.
But Collins said: "Players can say what they want but at this moment in time they are Hibs football players - that's what they're paid to do.
"We have a terrific group of players and it's not about individuals."
Collins said the players were available at a price, but he would not reveal how much it would take interested clubs to buy Brown or Thomson.
"The bid has been made and the bid has been refused so we carry on with business as normal," he added.
 | There is a danger Hibs could be unreasonable here |
Earlier, Brown had said it was "difficult to understand" why Hibs would not accept Charlton's offer.
"They are not willing to give us new deals and yet they are not willing to accept that kind of money for us. It doesn't make any sense," he told the Daily Record.
"Of course Charlton interest me. Who wouldn't fancy the Premiership?"
Brown had a written transfer request rejected by Hibs in early December and is under contract until 2009.
Hibs chairman Rod Petrie revealed that the approach from Charlton has been the only one for the highly-rated duo.
But Brown has been repeatedly linked with a move to Rangers and says he would be willing to speak to the Ibrox club.
"There has been a lot of talk about Rangers but we'll just have to wait and see how serious they are," he added.
"I would relish the chance to talk to them but I suppose it all depends on how reasonable Mr Petrie is willing to be."
Thomson and Brown (right) are wanted by Charlton |
Hibs' resolve to hold on to the midfield duo is sure to be tested in January and Brown certainly appears keen to leave Easter Road.
"Charlton have come in with a great offer and he (Petrie) has knocked it back," he said.
"I find that very hard to understand so it's time we put our cards on the table.
"We need to know exactly what Rod is looking for because there is a danger Hibs could be unreasonable here.
"When was the last time a Scottish player was sold for 3m? The only ones I can think of are Barry Ferguson and Duncan Ferguson.
"James McFadden was sold to Everton by Motherwell for 1.75m and he was already a Scottish international."
Hibs lost Gary Caldwell under freedom of contract in the summer and only received a nominal sum for Derek Riordan, due to his contract situation.
However, they did recoup 1.6m when striker Garry O'Connor was sold to Lokomotiv Moscow in March.
