Jersey captain Talite Vaioleti scored the winning try |
Jersey returned to winning ways with a 38-34 away win over fourth-placed Hertford to secure third place in London One. After a dismal showing in losing 28-20 at home to Tring last weekend, head coach Ben Harvey was pleased with the players' attitude in responding. He told BBC Radio Jersey: "After last week's effort that was really poor, they put together some great rugby. "It was a terrific game and we deserved to win." Hertford scored first to take a 7-0 lead, but Jersey replied with tries from Michael Le Bourgeois and Sam Tuia to 12-7 in front. | The Siam Cup is going to take precedence now. But the home side bounced back themselves and scored twice more to go into the break 21-12 up. The see-saw nature of the clash continued throughout the second half. Charlie Clyde-Smith scored in the first minute and Ryan Morgan followed it soon after with a try of his own to put Jersey in front for a second time, only for the home side to score again and regain the lead. Le Bourgeois' second try saw the game swing back in Jersey's favour at 31-28, but two Hertford penalties looked set to condemn Harvey's side to heartbreak. But in the last minute Jersey captain Talite Vaioleti scored under the posts after bursting through the Hertford line from a scrum to secure victory. With third place secure Harvey said all focus is now on the Siam Cup clash against Guernsey on 2 May. "The Siam Cup is going to take precedence now. Everyone knows that it's the biggest game in the island and we're all desperate to get the Siam Cup back," he said.
