 Jersey's forwards in action against Stratford-Upon-Avon |
Jersey head coach Ben Harvey is looking for a top-four London One finish after his team demolished Stratford-Upon-Avon in their final pre-season warm-up. Jersey ran out 40-14 winners in a one-sided affair. Harvey was pleased with his team's performance, but has his sights set firmly on a successful season. "I've set myself and the boys high standards and to be honest I want to finish in the top four and I'm looking for promotion," he told BBC Jersey. There were tries for Kern Yates, Ashley Maggs, Mark Livesey, Joe Ellyatt, Graham Ball and Mark White, while new signing Mitch Burton, the former London Welsh kicker, proved his worth converting at will, with one from next to the touchline. With the pre-season over, all focus is now on Jersey's first match in London Division One against Tring. "It's gone well so far, it's going to be a really big test next week, we know that and for the rest of the season as well," said Harvey. | He's a bit disappointed in his own performance but I thought he carried the ball well and helped out in the line-outs Ben Harvey on Hendry Rheeders | New professional Hendry Rheeders played his first match having only arrived on Thursday. Although looking a bit rusty, Harvey was still pleased with the South African. "We rushed him though and then turned him out to play," said Harvey. "He's a bit disappointed in his own performance but I thought he carried the ball well and helped out in the line-outs. We'll get a lot more out of him." New Zealander Sam Tuia's visa has now been granted and he will arrive in Jersey on Wednesday. He will be given a fitness test but should take to the field next Saturday in the season opener against Tring. "We want to get up into this league and then either consolidate or get up into the next league, so far so good and the boys are working hard," Harvey added.
