Coach wants players to earn spots

Jersey Rugby
Jersey's coach Ben Harvey is looking for the players to earn their spot

Jersey face Stratford-upon-Avon in their last pre-season match on Saturday, with coach Ben Harvey looking for players to impress him.

"A few of the team have cemented their spots, but virtually all the rest are playing for their spot," Harvey told BBC Radio Jersey.

It will be Harvey's first chance to see how new South African signing Hendrik Rheeders fits into the team.

But work permit problems mean New Zealander Sam Tuia will not play.

"I look forward to seeing Rheeders play, but it's unfortunate that Sam Tuia won't be there with us as he is still waiting on his work permit, I don't think he'll make it for Tring either."

And Harvey would like the side to record a win, they lost their last pre-season game 13-8 to Kenilworth, he says it is not vital.

"It would be good to go into the League with some winning momentum, but this weekend's match is about having another look at the players."
