Burton quits as director of rugby

Jersey Rugby Club's director of rugby Dai Burton has stepped down to become a vice president of the club.

Burton was in charge during the club's most successful period, guiding them to promotion from London South West Division Three to London One.

He became director of rugby when New Zealander Barry George joined the club as head coach last season.

"I've gone as far as I could with the club," Burton told BBC Radio Jersey after making his decision.

He coached Jersey as it changed from being amateur to semi-professional and was responsible for bringing the first professional players to the island.

The role of director of rugby will now be absorbed into new head coach Ben Harvey's role at the club.

"We've reached the targets that Guy Hinks and I put together a few years ago of getting up to London One," Burton added.

"It does take a lot more work now, lots more commitment. It's time for someone to take over and take us further."

But Burton's last match as director of rugby ended in defeat as Jersey lost to Guernsey in the Siam Cup in May.
