Steve O'Brien was one of six Jersey try scorers in Norfolk on Saturday |
Jersey bounced back from a defeat in style as they cruised to a 46 -8 London Division One win at North Walsham. After losing 21-13 at home to Barnes a fortnight ago, coach Ben Harvey had promised a more attacking game plan. And he got it, four first-half tries to Sam Tuia, Mitch Burton, Steve O'Brian and Michael Le Bourgeois and Jersey earning a 29-8 half-time interval lead. Le Bourgeois got his second after the break, bolstered by further tries from Ryan Morgan and Graham Bell. "I changed the game plan since the defeat to Barnes," said Harvey. "We were determined to come to North Walsham and play attacking wide rugby. | Putting 46 points on the board away from home is a great effort |
"It's a natural progression that we would have done in pre-season for next year, but we've sped that up. "I thought the players would be ready for it and sure enough they were. "Putting 46 points on the board away from home is a great effort, I was proud of every single one of them." Jersey stay in third, five points behind Barnes and Shelford after the win in Norfolk. But Harvey knows that, in reality, the defeat to Barnes signalled the end of their promotion hopes. "Promotion is not on now," he said. "With only five games left, we're relying on them to lose three of them and I don't think either Shelford or Barnes are going to slip up to that extent." Jersey face ninth-placed Sutton and Epsom next week at St Peter.
