Former Sale full-back David Doherty scored four tries for Jersey |
Jersey thrashed bottom club Newbury 99-0 to make it 10 league wins in a row and keep up the pressure on the National Two South leaders Ealing. Four tries from substitute David Doherty and hat-tricks for Ed Dawson and Ashley Elphinston were amongst the 15 tries scored by the islanders. The win leaves Jersey in second - seven points off top but with a game in hand. It was Jersey's second thumping win over Newbury this season - back in November they won easily, 122-10. Newbury have just one league win to their name so far this season. Ben Harvey, Jersey's head coach, said: "We set ourselves the target of making sure the opposition didn't score and making sure that we didn't miss a tackle. "We certainly didn't miss many tackles and the score line, that 'nil', was hugely important to us."
Jersey tries: Doherty (4), Dawson (3), Elphinston (3), Copsey (2), Sanders, Le Bourgeois and McGuire. Jersey conversions: Le Bourgeois (6), Henderson (6)
