The North of England Prep School Barbarians will play the Midlands
Two pupils from the Buchan School have been selected to represent the North of England Prep School Barbarians Under-11s team on 28 November. Bevan Rodd and Cameron Wheeler both impressed at trials held at Sedbergh School, in Cumbria, on Sunday. Teacher Neil MacGregor said: "Never in our wildest dreams did we expect to have two of our pupils selected." The year six students will now represent the Barbarians against a Midlands team at Worksop College. "We are very proud of all four of our pupils that attended the trials and we're sure that Bevan and Cameron will represent themselves and the school with pride," added MacGregor. Rodd, who arrived at the trials as a fly-half, caught the eye with his physical strength and will move into the second-row for the match. Wheeler and Rodd are the first Manx pupils to represent the team |
He told BBC Isle of Man: "I'm really excited to play for the Barbarians and I'm looking forward to moving up into the forwards." Meanwhile, Wheeler has been selected to play at full-back. "It's great to have the chance to play in a match like this. We want to thank Mr MacGregor for all his help," he said. Spencer Cope and Nathan Pope were the school's other players at the trials but narrowly missed out on selection. Northern Festival Organiser, Neil Rollings, said: "All four of the Buchan players impressed us a great deal and we are very confident that Cameron and Bevan add a great deal to the team. "It is the first time the Isle of Man has been involved in the competition and we are delighted they have done so well. "The standard of the pupils from the Buchan was very high and the way they conducted themselves was excellent." The best players from the North of England and Midlands teams will be merged to face a combined team from the South East and South West. The combined teams will face each other at Rugby School in April. To view the team, click here.
