Vikings won their third consecutive Isle of Man title in 2009 |
Vikings ladies thrashed Ambleside 7-0 at Sedbergh School in Cumbria on Sunday to reach the second round of the England Hockey Women's Vase. Kirsty Cooper put away two goals in quick succession to give the Manx team a comfortable half-time lead. In the second half captain Kim Carney scored an impressive hat-trick while Louise Slater and Zoe Carney added further strikes. The Isle of Man champions will now face Penrith Ladies on 28 November. The Manx club qualified for the competition after winning the Isle of Man's Women's Premier League and will be looking to improve on last year's campaign when they reached the semi-finals. The Women's Vase, which is a straight knock-out competition, has been running since the 2000/01 season. Meanwhile in the Men's Premier Division, Bacchas A maintained their lead at the top of the table with a victory 6-0 over Bacchas B. Jonny Callow, Sean Corlett and Karl Moore all scored two goals apiece to keep the Tromode side's 100% unbeaten record. Valkyrs A kept their title hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over Vikings A while Vikings B claimed an impressive 4-2 victory over Castletown A to move away from the relegation zone. Elsewhere, bottom placed Saracens claimed their first points of the season by narrowly beating Harlequins 3-2. In the Women's Premier Division, Valkyrs A suffered a dent to their title ambitions drawing 2-2 with Castletown A. There were better fortunes for the club's B team who added to their points tally with a 3-0 victory over Castletown B.
