Lloyd Taggart and Michael George retained their Syd Quirk Memorial Half-Marathon titles in calm and dry conditions on Sunday. Taggart won the 13.2-mile running title in one hour 13:54 minutes, whilst George claimed the race-walk title in a time of one hour 52:16 minutes. Taggart told BBC Isle of Man: "The conditions were much better than last year and I was made up to win." A record number of athletes started and finished the event. Taggart finished three minutes 23 seconds ahead of Mike Garrett with Stuart Christian less than a minute further back in third. The quickest woman in the running event was Gail Griffiths in a time of 1:28:41, a time that placed her 13th overall. Meanwhile, George retained his race walk title with a 10-minute winning margin. He beat Richard Gerrard by 10 minutes 22 seconds with Andy Green completing the top three. "It's always nice to win but I was after a much quicker time. I will use the performance as an indicator of where I want to be," he said. Judith Quane was the quickest lady and seventh overall in a time of 2:14:39.
