Captain Fran Hunt scored Vagas first try of the new season |
After back-to-back promotions, Vagabonds Ladies began life in RFUW Championship North Two with a 29-10 defeat at Morpeth on Saturday. Tries from captain Fran Hunt and Cassie Watterson meant the game was finely balanced 10-10 at half-time, before Morpeth took control. Coach Darrin Cook said: "It was a strong first-half performance but we tired towards the end." The victory sees Morpeth climb to third and Vagabonds sit sixth. Newcastle-based Novocastrians Ladies lead the table with 18 points, having won all four of their matches. Cook continued: "We've stepped up another level this year, so we will have some tough challenges ahead. We have a great team spirit and will come out fighting in our next match." "We're only two leagues below the National Premiership, so as a club we are definitely heading in the right direction." The Manx side will now welcome Sheffield on 13 November. The match will be played at the new Ballafletcher facility.
