Beeches is the first name on the trophy |
Beeches beat United Banks 5-3 in a thrilling final to win Jersey's first beach rugby tournament. In front of crowds during the day estimated at over 2,000 at St Brelade's beach, PWC 1 won the Bowl and Les Quennevais Lydian A team won the plate. Special guest, Jersey and England star Matt Banahan told BBC Jersey: "Hopefully, this could become one of the big beach tournaments in Europe. "It's not just a rugby event, it's an overall experience of Jersey." Organiser Chris Scott was also delighted with the day's events, and has big plans for the future. "A spectacular day for everybody," he said. "If I can do it, I'd like to hold this event next year over two days, and have international sides here taking part. This is the start of a long-term event." Banahan added: "I've had people from Germany talking to me telling me how fantastic this is. I hope this tournament will grow and grow."
