Champions Jersey celebrating 25 wins and just one defeat all season |
Jersey Rugby Club made it 25 successive league wins in National Three London with a 42-5 win over Bracknell in their final league match of the season. The champions avenged their opening day defeat at Bracknell, since when they have won every league match. Centre Sam Tuia scored a hat-trick of tries, and told BBC Jersey: "I had a lot of help from the forwards today." "But what a season it has been. I am speechless at the moment. It has been terrific." Bracknell were pre-season favourites to take the title, but are in fourth place, with two matches still to play. Jersey were presented with the National Three London trophy after the match, in front of more than 1,500 supporters. With their league season over, during which they have scored over 1200 points, Jersey Rugby Club now prepare to host Taunton in the National Three Cup semi-final in a fortnight. A season's biggest crowd is expected, and a win would see the club playing their first ever match at Twickenham. Squeezed in between those two games will be the Siam Cup - the annual clash featuring Guernsey and Jersey for the second-oldest rugby trophy in the world.
