Jersey are 11 points clear at the top of National League Three after beating Bishop's Stortford 25-15 at home. But they were made to work hard, and had to come from 15-3 down with just 25 minutes of the second-half remaining. Three home tries during that period were enough to overturn the deficit, and give the side their 16th win in 17 league matches. Jersey's lead at the top is cut by a point to 11, after Old Albanians won 31-7 at bottom club Sutton & Epsom. It was looking bleak for Jersey, who have not lost since the opening day of the season. Two tries from the outstanding James Rea had put the Essex side 15-3 ahead. | Huge credit must go to Bishop's Stortford |
But tries from substitute winger Brendan O'Brien, Ed Dawson and Ashley Maggs turned the match around. Dan Hawkes kicked well for the home side, scoring ten points. For Jersey coach Ben Harvey it was a tough encounter, but one which he expected. "We dug ourselves into a pretty deep hole, and huge credit must go to Bishop's Stortford," he said. "I've always thought they were an excellent side." "They are well-drilled and have some very good players, and they put us under an awful lot of pressure." Strangely, referee Rob Tahuri played six minutes short in the first half, and no stoppage time in the second.
