Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is impressed by junior football in Jersey and says there is opportunities for top class players to come from the island.

His comments come after taking a session with youngsters during his visit to the island.

"It's been fantastic, the kids this morning were great to work with," he told BBC Jersey.

"There's lots of good coaches here and they're all enthusiastic - I've been really impressed with the whole thing."

Redknapp added: "We've had lots of talented players coming out of the Channel Islands over the years.

"I'm sure there's many more waiting for the opportunity - it's a great area to look into."

The Tottenham manager says there is no reason why others players could not follow in the footsteps of Graeme Le Saux and Matt Le Tissier and get right to the top.

"It can happen at any time - you've got Brett Pitman at Bournemouth doing very well - I've seen a lot of him and he's scoring goals, with lots of clubs from higher divisions looking at him.

"So the talent's here, and there's lots of kids in the Channel islands who could emulate them."

Redknapp also had a word of advice for all youngsters who wanted to get to the highest level.

"Practice, practice, practice. I always tell stories about Frank Lampard; I've never seen anyone in my life train and practice like he did."

"The best players practice hardest. If you practice hard, you'll get lucky and you'll make it."
