Dawson's three tries helped Jersey to over 1,000 points this season |
Jersey Rugby Club are just one win away from the National 3 title after a huge 74-7 win at home to Havant. Ed Dawson helped himself to a hat-trick and there were two tries each for Donovan Saunders and Nick Trower. During the game, Jersey scored their 1,000th point of the season when Dan Hawkes put over a conversion. Nearest rivals Old Albanians also won convincingly on Saturday, but a win at Hertford next week will guarantee Jersey the title and promotion. | I've had a lot of kicking practice this season Jersey fly-half Dan Hawkes |
Jersey coach Ben Harvey was delighted with another superb all-round performance. He told BBC Jersey: "I don't think these boys realise what they're achieving this season to be honest - one day it might sink in." It fell to Dan Hawkes, Jersey's fly-half, to clinch the 1,000th point with a conversion but he was not aware of the record. "No I wasn't, but it was great to get to that milestone," he said. "I think Hartbury did it last week, so we are only the second in the entire nation to do this. I've had a lot of kicking practice this season." Hertford Rugby Club on Saturday, 20 March could be the venue that sees Jersey win the championship and gain automatic promotion.
