Skipper Simon Sharrott said the island side put in a 'disappointing' display |
Guernsey Rugby Club captain Simon Sharrott fears they may not have done enough to secure a place in the play-offs for promotion to London 1 South. After beating Trojans only 23-12 on Saturday, Guernsey have now left the door open for London2 South West promotion rivals Tottonians. Second place now depends on Saturday's game between third-placed Tottonians and leaders London Irish Amateur. But Tottonians must win by 33 points or more to take Guernsey's play-off slot. Tottonians kept themselves in the race for a play-off place with a 36-31 win over Weybridge Vandals. "It's out of our hands now," said Sharrott. "I'm a bit disappointed with our display. "We should have scored a few more tries, but Trojans didn't let up so fair play to them." | It was a win but it was a disappointing display to be honest. We can play a lot better than that |
Guernsey dominated the first half, leading 13-0 at the break, but relaxed after the restart, allowing Trojans back into the game. "It was a win but it was a disappointing display to be honest," added Sharrott. "We can play a lot better than that. "A few silly mistakes, we slipped off a few tackles and gave them too many chances "We've have to train harder in the next couple of weeks to make sure we make those things right." The play-offs are due to be played on 24 April, after which Guernsey will prepare for the annual battle against Jersey on 1 May in the Siam Cup, the second oldest trophy in rugby.
