Plymouth Albion overcame dreadful weather in Edinburgh to pick up their first win in the British & Irish Cup. Plymouth led 18-0 at half-time at Lasswade following tries from Sean-Michael Stephens and Ben Mercer. After the break, Albion increased their lead to 25-0 with a converted try from Steve Johns, his first for the club. Referee Paul Haycock blew his whistle early on 66 minutes, as the snow and freezing temperatures had made playing difficult, but the result still stands. Over three quarters of the game had been played when Mr Haycock called time - and, under competition rules, that was sufficient to ensure a result. Albion, for whom Alex Davies kicked two penalties and two conversions, move up into fourth in Pool A. But, with only one game remaining, they are unable to qualify for the semi-finals. Gael Force remain rooted to the foot of the table in sixth place, with no wins from their four games. Plymouth will finish their Cup campaign against Exeter Chiefs next Saturday (6 March), while Gael Force's last fixture is against Leinster.
