Cornish Pirates game against London Welsh on Sunday could be switched to the Mennaye Field in Penzance because of the freezing weather in Camborne. Pirates' chief executive Rod Coward said although the Camborne pitch is playable, the club are worried about icy surfaces around the ground. Coward said: "I am conscious that this cold snap is set to continue. "Our contingency plan is that we change the venue of Sunday's game to the Mennaye Field, Penzance." He added: "I am also aware of the problems with trying to re-arrange postponed games, which must be played before the play-offs and this means mid-week fixtures. "This is not an attractive prospect given that there are no floodlights at Camborne and those at the Mennaye Field do not conform with regulations," said Coward. London Welsh have agreed to the potential move, although the Pirates stress that switching to Penzance is just a backup plan at present. Welsh are currently third in the Championship with 43 points, whilst the Pirates lie fifth with 41 points.
