Paul Mariner not concerned by Plymouth transfer embargo

Plymouth manager Paul Mariner
Mariner is confident Plymouth's transfer embargo will be lifted

Plymouth Argyle head coach Paul Mariner has said the transfer embargo at Home Park is not causing him any concerns.

The Pilgrims have been unable to act in January's transfer window after an embargo was enforced by the Football League in December due to unpaid debts.

Mariner told BBC Spotlight: "I'm not too sure whether anything would have happened so quickly into the window.

"We're still doing our research, we've got our list. If and when the embargo comes off, we'll be going hard at it."

Transfer ban not worrying Mariner

In December, Argyle's executive director Keith Todd told BBC Sport:

"We're not expecting it [the transfer embargo] to be affecting us after the opening of the window in January. It's a technical matter, it'll be resolved."

And despite the embargo still in place five days into January, Mariner remains confident that the problem will shortly come to an end.

"I firmly believe that the board are men of their word, and obviously I can't go into the ins and outs of it, but I know what's going on and I've got no doubts that it will be lifted," said Mariner.

Whilst no new players will be gracing Home Park until Plymouth clear their debts, Mariner said the return from injury of several key players is having an equally positive effect on the squad.

Summer-signing Bradley Wright-Phillips is back in training and the Home Park staff are hopeful the striker will return to competitive action before the end of the month.

Mariner said: "It will be fantastic if we get Bradley back. To use the old cliché it's like another signing for us.

"We're nursing him a little bit - this sort of weather is not the greatest for him with the injuries that he's had so we're monitoring him day to day."
