Truro City boss Steve Thompson unveils ambitious plans

Truro City's new boss Steve Thompson believes the Tigers have the potential to play at the highest level of non-league football.

The 46-year-old took over at Treyew Road last week, starting his tenure with a 2-2 draw against Clevedon Town.

Thompson told BBC Radio Cornwall: "The club has loads of ambition.

"I've spoken to the chairman [Kevin Heaney] and the ambition is there for Truro to get up to the top echelon of non-league and maybe even beyond."

He added: "The Conference is a tremendous level of football and those teams are on a par in many ways with League Two teams."

Truro gained promotion for the fourth consecutive season last summer after being crowned Southern League Division One South & West champions.

And Thompson believes that reaching the Blue Square Premier league, which would require a further two promotions, is still achievable this year despite his side lying 13th in the Southern Premier League at present.

"I've got four months and lots of games to try and get into the play-offs.

"I'm looking at it positively and I think that we can achieve that," said Thompson.
