Moseley, the only team from outside the National One top five left in, have been handed a home EDF Trophy semi-final against second-placed Exeter. Leaders Leeds travel to fifth-placed Nottingham in the other semi. Exeter's trip to Birmingham to meet Moseley at Billesley Common is expected to be on Saturday 21 March. Leeds, who have beaten Nottingham twice already in the league this season, are due to travel to Meadow Lane in the other semi the following day. Leeds only just avoided a cup upset in Saturday's quarter-final, fighting back from 24-12 down at League Two Birmingham & Solihull with just six minutes left to score two converted tries and win 26-24. But they still boast a 100 per cent winning record this season in League One and have happy memories of both this season's league meetings with Nottingham. | Saturday 21 March Moseley v Exeter Sunday 22 March Nottingham v Leeds |
The 34-19 win on the opening day of the season at Headingley was Andy Key and Neil Back's first competitive game in charge. And Leeds were then victorious at Meadow Lane in December, winning 19-12, to end any realistic hope Nottingham might have had of claiming the title. By contrast to Leeds' narrow squeak on Saturday, Nottingham eased though, enjoying a ten-try 66-7 romp in Cornwall against Mounts Bay. In the other semi, Moseley, who are 11th in League One, booked their place with a 27-21 win at London Welsh. Chiefs, who got through with a narrow 20-17 win at Doncaster, are into the last four for the fourth straight year but they have lost the last two finals. They went down to South West rivals Cornish Pirates at Twickenham in 2007 and to Northampton nine months ago. BBC Radio Leeds will have full match commentary of the semi-final between Nottingham and Leeds Carnegie.
