Exeter Chiefs scrum-half and BBC Devon columnist

  | There are a number of issues that need to be addressed and we will be doing a lot of work this week. If we are off the pace next week, we will simply get punished | The last few weeks have not been very regular due to postponed games. It was quite a weird situation with the referee coming to inspect the pitch that had three inches of snow covering it. The family of snowmen and the snowball fight was a clear indication that conditions may indeed be hazardous. I can't remember seeing someone get tackled by a snowball and unfortunately will have to wait for the next batch of snow to come in for that to happen. London Welsh caused us a lot of problems at home in the early part of the season and so we knew that going away the game would be another step up. After scraping through against Bedford in the cup last week we were determined to put a few things right, maintaining the result but improving our performance. We found ourselves on the back foot for the majority of the first half and London Welsh certainly tested us and were deservedly in front at half-time. Half-time came just at the right time and allowed us to stop our somewhat downward spiral. The second half we just seemed to be a different side. It was comparable to being in a fight. Had the first half gone on any longer we probably would have been knocked out for good. It is an easy thing to just roll over and continue along the downward spiral, but having worked so hard for the season, we were not going to let it happen and had to dig very deep. We raised the tempo, backed our fitness and continued to try and play. This shone through as we managed to maintain it right until the very end. We sneaked in front and when the final whistle went it was a relief to win the game. There are a number of issues that need to be addressed and we will be doing a lot of work this week. If we are off the pace next week, we will simply get punished. We head up to Doncaster in the cup which promises to be a brutal affair.
Dan Tuohy's sledging skills have become legendary in the Chiefs camp |
Due to the snowfall it allowed a large majority to get out and enjoy the snow. If you are keen to learn about sledging then Dan Tuohy is definitely the king. He was the undefeated U9s single man wheelbarrow downhill sledging champion for the South West. He had the ability to control his wheelbarrow with astonishing control. Due to this, he managed to have an audition for the lead role in Cool Runnings but didn't make the shortlist as he couldn't speak Jamaican.
